Evan Longoria Throwing Patterns

Here’s some fun clips of Evan Longoria’s HLT Throwing Patterns thanks to NoontimeBaseball @noontimegifs

Trunk Tilt Throws
This is a great clip showing the pelvis opening towards the target while the torso or trunk turns back against those hips, creating resistance or “separation” between the two structures.

The elbow is driving back and initiating the arm pattern because the trunk is tilted forward. This trunk angle will change the initial arm pattern direction, in order for the scaps to retract and for the athlete to feel disconnect from the body! Notice the elbow is flexed immediately when bringing the arm back to throw.

Kneeling Throw

Right, Left Drop Step, Shuffle Throw
Right/Left, Right/Left, Right/Left!
Footwork is Right, Left if you haven’t noticed! The arm pattern is a little bit longer, meaning the elbow is somewhat flexed as it’s brought back into its specific pattern and through external rotation.

Starting Double Play from 3B
Last two steps are Right, Left… shocker. There’s an element of the fielding process that we call the “Rocker” Step. Notice the left heel will touch the ground as the ball is moving into his glove and being fielded. Then, the foot will rock from the heel to the toe, creating direction and momentum towards the target.

Evan’s left toes point towards second base because he knows he’s starting a double play in that direction. Trunk angle changes so the elbow will initiate the throw in order to get the scap involved and retract, creating that disconnect between the arm and the body.
