There should never be an excuse of why you can’t perform long toss. If you can’t get outside to throw, there are plenty of ways to get your work in!
Listen, you’re never too good to throw into a net! You don’t need a partner and it can save you time! When we perform our indoor long toss sessions, we throw into nets! As we increase our throwing intensity, we are basically simulating specific throwing distances!
Take a look at Kevin Pillar of the Toronto Blue Jays. He’s getting his long toss in against a field screen during batting practice. He performs this for about 10 minutes before heading to the outfield to get his pull downs in!
Major League players are performing this, so there’s no reason why YOU can’t too!
Long Toss Protocol
We use Jaeger Sports Long Toss Program and what we do indoors is exactly how we approach our throwing when we get outside! Below are a few examples of our athletes throwing Long Toss into the nets along with an example pull down throw!
Initial Low Intensity Long Toss Throws
Moderate Intensity Long Toss Throws
High Intensity Long Toss Throws – Max Effort
Pull Down Phase or Compression Phase
